Charities
Throughout his life, Peter support a number of charities - particularly those that help veterans of the Armed Forces. Peter was particularly passionate about the need to support veterans with mobility issues, given his long periods of recovery after his catastrophic 1984 parachute accident, and the aftermath of Operation Phoenix in 1991. He also never saw himself a hero, and always opted to recognize the “real heroes”, like his grandfather “Old Miles” McAleese (late of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, WWI) and the many Victoria Cross recipients throughout history. The charities listed here supported both of these efforts.
